The Faber Family
Our Journey at the Rift Valley Academy

Karibuni!  WELCOME to our Website!  We are so glad that you have come to browse and share a few minutes of your time with us!  This picture was taken in March 2010 just outside the Elementary school on the grounds of The Rift Valley Academy where we work.

We currently serve as missionaries in Kenya with Africa Inland Mission (AIM). With AIM, our main responsibility is serving as dorm parents for 17 8th Grade boys at The Rift Valley Academy in Kenya which is an hour north west of Nairobi. This Christian boarding school provides an excellent education with the purpose to serve the children of missionaries serving all through Africa.  RVA has been teaching missionary kids (MK’s) for over 100 years.

Many of these missionary kids (MKs) have in later years returned to Africa as second and even third generation missionaries. The current student body of 495 includes more than 20 different nationalities. The families these students represent serve with 80 mission organizations in over 20 African countries.

By partnering with us as we care for these children, you are actually enabling hundreds of missionaries on the field – from doctors and nurses, to pastors and church planters, AIDS workers, water experts, teachers, peace negotiators, translators, and more. Knowing that their children are well taken care of in a safe, nurturing, Christian environment, these parents can continue on with their work with peace of mind in often remodormlife09te and dangerous parts of Africa.

What we do:  We serve as dorm parents to 17 boys all in Grade 8.  It’s a full time job and we love it!  We count it a great privelage to care for our BIG family – to love, disciple and care for all our kids.  We care for our boys around the clock – making snacks in large quantities, leading devotional times, celebrating birthdays, teaching them how to cook and clean!

Andrew also uses his computer skills serving the student population in the computer services department and the business office. Sue is a stay at home mom with Beatrice still in preschool but she is also in the process of getting her Kenyan nursing registration.  She is involved in leading a community Bible Stubirthdayjal09dy as well as caring for a big family!

Andrew and Sue are also both attending Bible courses at the local Kenyan Seminary which is a few minutes away.  Hannah is currently in Grade 2 and Beatrice is in preschool attending a mom-led preschool here at RVA as well as the African preschool in Kijabe.  There is never a dull  moment here in Kijabe!

Projects:  We also so thankful that God has enabled us to be involved inhandinhand other ministry opportunities in addition to our responsibilities at RVA.  Our vision and focus is to learn first and to gain mutual understanding, respect and friendship with our Kenyan community. We are currently working in partnership with the Africa Inland Church (AIC) in a village called Kasarani which is about an hour’s drive away from our home in Kijabe.  We are working together with the local pastor and community members to build a feeding centre for orphan children as well as a 3 acre farming site to grow fresh produce for the feeding program.  We are also very much interested in conservation agriculture using Farming God’s Way (FGW) techniques.   You can read more about our projects under the Ministry Projects section of this website.
